The cost to import building materials from China depends on what you order, how it is made and packed, where it is delivered, and who handles each stage. A useful budget includes the products, transport, destination charges and installation—not just the factory quotation.
For homeowners, developers and contractors, the first question is whether two quotes cover the same specification and delivery scope. A lower unit price can leave more costs to pay later. This guide explains what to request before you approve an order.

Build your budget around separate cost categories. For every item, mark included, excluded, separately quoted or not yet confirmed. A blank line should never be treated as a zero cost.
| Cost category | What to confirm | When a separate quote may be needed |
|---|---|---|
| Materials and products | Quantities, dimensions, material grades, finishes and accessories | Options or products outside the original schedule |
| Custom fabrication | Cutting, machining, drilling, assembly and special details | Work not included in the product price |
| Packaging and inspection | Cartons, crates, protection, labels and agreed inspection scope | Upgraded packing or third-party inspection |
| Origin handling and transport | Factory collection, consolidation, export documents and terminal charges | Services outside the seller’s agreed scope |
| International freight and insurance | Route, transport method, shipment size, cover and quote validity | Insurance or surcharges excluded from freight |
| Destination charges | Customs brokerage, applicable duties and taxes, terminal handling and examinations | Fees payable locally by the importer |
| Local delivery and unloading | Transport to the site, access restrictions, lifting and unloading equipment | Delivery beyond the quoted endpoint |
| Installation and completion | Labour, fixings, preparation, adjustments and waste removal | Work performed by your local contractor |
Working budget = agreed supplier charges + additional logistics + destination charges + local delivery and installation + a project-specific contingency.
Add only amounts that are not already included elsewhere. For example, do not add a second freight allowance if the agreed supplier price already includes that same freight service. Record any sourcing or coordination fee separately when applicable.
Keep the cash required for import taxes visible in your budget. Whether a tax can later be recovered is a separate question for your local adviser.

Buying building materials from China is easier to assess when each quotation refers to an approved product schedule rather than a broad description such as “premium finish”.
For custom kitchen cabinets, confirm cabinet dimensions, carcass material and thickness, door construction, finish, hinges, drawer runners and internal accessories. State whether countertops, cut-outs, end panels, fillers and installation drawings are included.
A cabinet price based on a simple layout cannot be compared directly with one that includes an island, tall storage and specialist drawer fittings. Ask how changes after drawing approval affect both price and production timing.
For aluminium windows and doors, identify the opening schedule, frame system, glazing specification, opening type, hardware and finish. Confirm the performance requirements and documents needed for your particular project before ordering.
Have the site team verify openings, installation details and interfaces with the surrounding construction. A product quotation alone does not establish that local installation materials or approvals are included.

Ask for the applicable Incoterms® rule, its named place or port, and the edition—for example, Incoterms® 2020. These rules allocate buyer and seller responsibilities; the quotation should also identify the actual services being priced. See the ICC’s official overview of Incoterms® 2020.
A price to a destination port is not automatically a price delivered to your building site. Confirm destination handling, import clearance, taxes and onward transport separately.
Two distinctions deserve particular attention:
DAP and DDP: Under DAP, import clearance and related import charges generally fall to the buyer; DDP assigns import clearance to the seller. Check whether the proposed seller can fulfil that responsibility in your destination country. ICC Academy explains the distinction.
CIF: This is a sea and inland-waterway rule. It includes specified freight and insurance arrangements, but should not be read as an all-inclusive site-delivery package. The point at which risk transfers also differs from the destination to which freight is paid. ICC explains cost and risk under C and D rules.
Request the shipment’s estimated packed volume and weight, route, quote validity, exclusions and any provisional surcharges. Ask when the freight estimate must be reconfirmed. Insurance should identify the insured goods, cover, exclusions and claims process rather than simply say “insured”.

Before paying a deposit, send the proposed product list and shipment scope to your destination customs broker and local delivery team. Ask them to identify:
Product classification, customs valuation and applicable duties or taxes.
Required product documents, conformity checks or import permissions.
Brokerage, terminal handling and possible examination charges.
Storage or container-related charges if clearance or collection is delayed.
Inland transport, border crossings where relevant, site access and unloading.
Requirements depend on the destination, product and transaction. Do not apply one country’s tax rate or documentation checklist to every overseas project.
For an inland destination, specify the final city and address rather than only the seaport. Also identify who will receive the shipment and whether the site can accommodate the delivery vehicle. Local installation should be agreed with the installer before final product approval.

A Foshan building materials price list can help you explore options, but a project comparison needs a shared specification and delivery boundary.
| Compare this | What a clear quotation should show |
|---|---|
| Products | The same quantities, sizes, materials, finishes and accessories |
| Scope | A clear list of included and excluded items |
| Drawings and revisions | The approved version and how later changes are charged |
| Packing and inspection | The protection method, checks and responsible party |
| Delivery | The trade term, named endpoint and transport scope |
| Payment | Currency, milestones, validity and bank-charge allocation |
| After-sales arrangements | Reporting procedure, replacement terms and freight responsibility |
Separate confirmed amounts from estimates and unresolved items. An incomplete quote may look cheaper simply because its destination or installation costs have not been added.
If the total exceeds your budget, review specifications and scope deliberately: simplify a cabinet layout, reconsider an optional accessory or adjust a finish. Record each agreed substitution so that budget changes do not silently change the product you expect to receive.

For useful building materials sourcing discussions, prepare:
Drawings and a material list or bill of quantities, with the current revision date.
Product quantities, dimensions, preferred materials, finishes and hardware.
Destination country, city and delivery address or proposed receiving point.
Target budget, currency and required delivery window.
Available local installation support and any project compliance requirements.
The delivery scope you want priced, plus any items that remain undecided.
COOBUILD helps overseas project buyers coordinate building materials sourcing from Foshan. Explore our sourcing services and ask which parts of your project can be included in a written quotation.
Share your drawings, quantities and destination city to request an itemized quote with clear inclusions and exclusions.
Send your project information through WhatsApp or email sale7@starhomeglobal.com. You can also leave your contact details for follow-up.

Only if the quotation explicitly includes it. Check the agreed delivery scope, named endpoint and exclusions. A product-only price should not be treated as a delivered price.
Ask for a project-specific assessment. Supplier minimum quantities, fabrication requirements, packing and logistics may affect feasibility. A small order can still incur handling and destination charges that do not reduce in proportion to product value.
It may be possible, subject to product readiness, dimensions, weight, packing compatibility and shipping requirements. Consolidation should be assessed against waiting time, handling costs and the risk of delaying items needed earlier.
Do not assume so. Confirm the installer, labour scope, site preparation, equipment and responsibility for final adjustments in writing. Sourcing, shipping and installation are distinct services.
There is no reliable universal saving percentage. Compare equivalent specifications and the full delivered-and-installed scope with your local alternative, including payment costs, time, inspection and replacement arrangements.
