Project at a glance
A three-storey villa: reception and public rooms on the ground floor, family living and bedrooms above, guest room, gym and terrace on the roof. Wall panels, joinery, tiles, sanitary ware, doors, lighting and furniture were coordinated by one team — one contract, one point of acceptance.
From the Foshan showroom to Bonabéri: one house, three stages — selection, loading, completion.Patrick, 52, has spent twenty years in China — logistics first, then his own trading business between Guangzhou, Yiwu and Douala. Ingrid, 44, is a client manager at a bank in Douala. Two children: twenty and sixteen. He was in Yiwu, she was in Douala, the house was in Bonabéri

Almost the whole house under one contract: not a dozen factories, but one order, one set of documents, one team accountable for every item.
Living room TV wall: book-matched travertine panels, bronze trim profiles, floating stone console. (drawing / result / showroom)
Master bedroom: linen-texture headboard wall with a glass-front wardrobe, wood interior and shelf lighting
Master bathroom: dark stone-look porcelain to full height, floating stone vanity, black-framed shower.
Kitchen: light oak veneer tall units, black-framed window.
First-floor corridor: wood veneer panels, slim-framed glass doors;
Details and delivery: shower, niche and wall-hung WC junctions, checked 1:1 in the showroom.
What arrived was not one total price but a batch-by-batch budget: panel quantities per room, an honest waste factor, what each container carries, how volumes are arranged to save freight, and which site stage each arrival matches. Ingrid entered it into her own spreadsheet and reconciled it in one pass.
Twenty years in trading had taught Patrick one thing: the real face of a supplier is what sits behind the quotation. ——Patrick
Buying building materials for a house while living abroad only works when the process is written down: a room-by-room video tour, a labelled photo of every approved sample, a packing list numbered by room, an auditable batch budget, and one person who owns your order from quotation to arrival. If you are comparing suppliers, start with how to verify building materials suppliers in China — and check whether the answers are documents or promises.
